At River, we seek to partner with experienced management teams who are dedicated to their businesses, have meaningful economic positions in their companies, are looking for more than capital from a financial partner and with whom we share a common vision for building long term value in their companies. We tailor our transactions to accommodate each owner’s specific goals and work quickly and efficiently to avoid any business disruption. The principals of River Associates have diverse backgrounds including operations, finance, accounting, commercial banking and investment banking. During the transaction process, we are very hands-on in our approach and have built a network of efficient, business minded third-party diligence providers to help drive the process. We believe this approach allows us to make informed decisions and move quickly to a closing. This ability to expedite the closing process is augmented by established relationships with a variety of senior and mezzanine lenders throughout North America.
Once we partner with management teams, we believe that daily operational autonomy should be in management’s hands. We view our role as that of active board members and pride ourselves on being great partners for management. Senior management team members often occupy board seats, participate in an annual bonus program administered by the board as well as long term incentive equity programs. Generally, at least one or two senior managers will join the board of directors. We support the vision of our management teams and work with them to help clarify and prioritize strategic initiatives. We help facilitate initiatives by supporting necessary additions in personnel, systems, equipment, and in the case of planned growth by acquisition, we often lead acquisition searches and perform much of the due diligence and legal negotiations.
